We're going to start the year off with an introductory program over four weeks for those who are new to contact improvisation.
Some of the things we'll learn:
- getting grounded
- physical listening
- following the point of contact
- rolling
- releasing
- balancing
- falling
- moving in and out of floor
- sharing/giving/taking weight
- following momentum
For those with experience this will give a chance to go over some of the basic stuff.
As usual it will be an hour class followed by an open jam.
Please RSVP as there is limited space at that studio.

About Movement Lab Seoul
We are a Contact Improvisation group in Seoul initiated in September 2009. We invite experienced and beginners alike. No partner required though you should be fairly comfortable getting in contact with other people. Bring comfortable, non-restrictive clothing. Long sleeves are recommended as there is rolling around on the floor.
What is Contact Improvisation?
Contact Improvisation is a vitalizing dance form in which the point of contact with another dancer provides the starting point for a movement exploration. Originally created as performance piece it was subsequently developed as a social dance and a movement exploration. It is most frequently performed as a duet, but can be danced by more people. There can be music or it can happen in silence. It is about sharing weight, rolling, suspending, falling, passive and active, energy and awareness. Variously described as art-sport, meditation, and therapy, it is basically a form of creative play and physical conversation satisfying our fundamental need to move and connect.
